Sonora Dinamita at the Convention Center

The group that helped start the popularity of Cumbia throughout Latin America, Sonora Dinamita, will be coming to the Rocky Point Convention Center Saturday, September 27th.

Hits like “Mi Cucu” and “Amor de Mis Amores” brought Columbian Cumbia to a worldwide audience starting in the 1980’s. The latest incarnation of the group is still on the road, and September’s event will help local charities through the sponsorship of the Rotary Club International.

At a recent press conference, club President Eduardo Vallejo Vazquez and members of the Puerto Penasco Mar de Cortez Rotary Club announced the event. After a long history here, the Rotary Club had been dormant for a number of years. Re-accredited just his Summer, the local Rotarians are wasting no time organizing an event for the benefit of the community. Proceeds from this event will be put to good use helping the local general hospital.
Saturday, September 27th will be a night for dancing. The opening act is Los Venturas de Caborca. Tickets for Sonora Dinamita are $200 pesos, $250 at the door.

Mark Mulligan coming to Carribean Parrot

For a good cause and a good time, Mark Mulligan returns to the Carribean Parrot

For a good cause and a good time, Mark Mulligan returns to the Carribean Parrot

While October is still a ways off, you might want to start planning now for the next appearance of singer/songwriter Mark Mulligan in Rocky Point. For the second time this year he will be entertaining fans at the Carribean Parrot.

While a show by Mark is a near perfect way to get into that laid-back beach vibe, this next show will be offering something special. Mark will be joined by singer/guitarist David Sheehy out of Phoenix. The two will make the night less of a Mark Mulligans greatest hits, and more of a sing-along.

Well known songs by the Eagles and other favorites from the 70’s will be the focus, so be ready to raise a glass and have a great time Friday, October 10th at the Carribean Parrot located just off of the Mirador (near Capone’s). There is NO cover, but as the proceeds go to local charities (as in all Mark Mulligan performances), please donate at on your way in at the door.

Why Choose Mexico For Your Next Coastal Resort Vacation?

Why Choose Mexico For Your Next Coastal Resort Vacation?

As more and more people look for unique ideas in terms of vacationing, they are increasingly turning to the coastal regions of Mexico for affordable alternatives when it comes to tropical paradise destinations. As a great alternative to long flights to Hawaii or Puerto Rico, Mexico is closer to home and offers more opportunities to enjoy paradise than ever before. In fact, coastal Mexico is only continuing to grow in popularity with vacationers.

Typically More Advantageous To The Traveler

One of the biggest benefits of choosing Mexico for your next resort vacation experience is that in many instances it can be driven to as opposed to taking a flight. This can make a big difference in the overall vacation experience in that driving avoids all the hassles and troubles associated with modern air travel. From delayed flights to canceled flights and overcrowded airplane cabins, anytime air travel can be avoided it is typically more advantageous to the traveler. Best of all, border-crossing requirements into Mexico are easy and efficient.

The Benefit Of Being Off The Beaten Trail

Choosing Mexico for a coastal resort vacation simply makes sense because it is also incredibly more affordable and cost-effective. Getting the most out of vacation dollars is easy when choosing coastal Mexico destinations such as Cancun, San Carlos, Rocky Point and other beautiful beach destinations. Coastal Mexico also offers the benefit of being off the beaten trail and far less crowded. Anyone that has ever spent any time in Waikiki Beach during the high season knows the disadvantages associated with trying to enjoy paradise with thousands of other people at the same time. In short, Paradise is anything but paradise under these conditions.

Choosing Coastal Mexico For A Luxury Resort Vacation

Mexico offers an alternative to crowded popular travel destinations in that many locations like Bahia Kino are typically never crowded and never congested. These areas are in essence small fishing villages that evolved into quaint little resort areas. This is a perfect way to have a relaxing and quiet getaway for a family or even for newlyweds. Choosing coastal Mexico for a luxury resort vacation simply makes good sense in today’s overly complex world. From avoiding busy airports to avoiding congested and over crowded travel destinations, more people than ever before are choosing coastal Mexico. Labor Day Weekend Off Road and Turtles Return

The Midnight Wreck Off Road Race

The long last weekend of Summer is right around the corner. Southern Arizona Desert Racing brings two night off road excitement as the next in their series of events here in Rocky Point.

Things start on Friday August 29th with a poker run. The night races start with bikes, quads, and UTV’s. Two more races will be for trucks and pre-runners, then finally for cars and pro-trucks.

For More information, check out the SADR on Facebook.

The turtles are back!

We recently saw the natural process play out on Rocky Points’ beaches, as a sea tutle laid eggs only to have them fail to mature successfully. Our beaches are on the very edge of the range for the Pacific Olive Ridley to nest, so the failure rate is expected to be higher.

Now, just a couple of weeks later, another nest of eggs has been laid, this time further out of town heading towards the Mayan Palace Resort. A protective barrier has gone up, and we will all wait with crossed fingers. An average of 100 little turtles can hatch in approximately 50 days, give or take.
