Revolution Day in Mexico

One of the biggest holidays celebrated in Mexico is Revolution Day (Dia de la Revolucion). The year 1920 saw the start of 10 years of conflict stemming from a desire for a more equiltable society. Every year on the third Monday in November, Mexicans commemorate the start of the Mexican Revolution.

All across the country in towns big and small, there are parades. School children make up most of the participants. Dressed as figures from the Revoution, they also compete to present the best drum and bugle corps and flag details.

Rocky Point celebrates with a parade as well. Families line the streets as wave after wave of revolutionaries pass by.

Mexico Travel Strategies For Visitors On Vacation

Mexico Travel Strategies For Visitors On Vacation

Exploring all that Mexico has to offer is easier and more affordable than it has ever been in the past. However, there are several Mexico travel strategies that vacationers should consider when traveling to this inviting and pleasant part of the world. For example, Mexico has specific liquor laws that should be abided by as a way to reduce the chances of having a problem while on vacation. Drinking is not allowed on the streets and the minimum age to drink in Mexico is 18.

Select A Lower Setting

Another important consideration when traveling to Mexico on vacation is the type of electricity that is used in the country. Mexico’s electrical systems are predominantly similar to US systems. Most electrical outlets provide 110 V AC, however, the majority of outlets use flat parallel blades as opposed to prongs. An adapter is always nice to have handy when traveling to Mexico. As an added note, small appliances and electronic devices may overheat when being used in Mexico. Select a lower setting on appliances to avoid this problem.

Exiting The Country

In Mexico the standard with regard to taxes is a 15% value added tax on most goods and services. In some other destinations such as Cozumel and Cancun the tax is only 10%. In addition, there is a tax on food and drinks that are consumed in a restaurant or other similar establishment. In most cases, this tax is 5% and is added directly to a food and drink bill. Another important consideration with regard to taxes in Mexico is that when exiting the country travelers can expect to pay a small exit tax that usually runs around $18.

Have A Conversion Chart Handy

With regard to tipping in Mexico, it is generally the same as it is in the United States. 15% is an adequate tip when dining out in casual and formal restaurants alike. Temperature in Mexico is measured in Celsius as opposed to Fahrenheit while distance and weight is measured using the metric system. Those traveling to Mexico should have a conversion chart handy to make the necessary adjustments as appropriate. When using a telephone in Mexico it is important to remember that when dialing out of the country 001 must be dialed if attempting to call the United States. Strategies To Consider When Traveling To Rocky Point Mexico

Strategies To Consider When Traveling To Rocky Point Mexico

Few other vacation experiences compare to spending time in warm and inviting Rocky Point Mexico. While there are many strategies that can be implemented to improve the overall vacation experience while visiting this delightful part of coastal Mexico, some are clearly more important than others. For example, carrying ammunition or guns into Mexico is strictly prohibited. In fact, this one act alone can result in incarceration in a foreign jail.

Filling Out The Proper Documents And Forms

Travelers to Mexico should make absolutely certain that no guns, ammunition or other associated accessories are present in a vehicle that is crossing the border into Mexico. Equally important is for travelers to ensure that they do not accept any type of work in Mexico without first filling out the proper documents and forms. It is also good to ensure that a Mexican insurance policy and the vehicle’s registration is on one’s person and not left in the car.

Proof Of Shots

In addition, those wishing to transport a boat, jet ski or ATV across the border into Mexico should make certain that they have all ownership documents with them at all times. Those wishing to bring a pet along on a vacation to Mexico should be sure to carry all documents from a veterinarian showing proof of shots. Once a vacation is over and travelers head for the border to return back to United States it is essential not to bring any fireworks, plants or wildlife back into the US. This can cause a delay or other serious consequences at the border when attempting to cross the border back into the United States.

Polite And Friendly

Finally, those making purchases in Mexico while on vacation should keep all receipts for each item purchased. These receipts may be requested by customs when preparing to cross the border. As an added note it is a good idea not to speed or break the law while in Mexico. Travelers should always be polite and friendly with all locals while in Mexico and with those working at the border. Follow these simple and smart strategies as a way to stay safe while visiting Rocky Point Mexico or other key coastal destinations throughout the country. CEDO is the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans. Located on the Sea of Cortez in Las Conchas, scientists and interns work to find ways to preserve the nature around them, while being a source for education as well. Working with local fishermen, CEDO helps to maintain a healthy balance of resource use in this part of the ocean.

An event on Saturday, November 8th will showcase some of those who are working with local resources. Weather through crafts, seafood, or ecotourism, all of the vendors use what they find locally in a sustainable way. This makes sure that what Mexico’s oceans have to offer is here for future genrations.

The CEDO facility is in a rambling old building on a hill of sand that rolls down to the sea. The building hosts camps for children to learn about the worlds oceans, exhibits about the local sealife, as well as serving as a base for projects involving local fisherman. A distinctive part of the CEDO building is the complete Humpback Whale skeleton that sits at the very top of the hill.

CEDO is easy to reach on the main road into Las Conchas. The CEDO Naturarte Market Place Sustaonable Local Prodcts Event will be in the parking lot on Saturday, November 8th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The event is designed to “encourage responsoble people doing doing efforts towards sustainability and a space to sell their products.”

Patti Springer Art in the Park Art Fair

image

For the last few years, folks in the Las Conchas neighborhood have honored the memory of resident artist Patti Springer with an annual art event. The call is out for artists to participate. Some go the extra mile and give a demonstration of how they create their work.

People drop by to do some Holiday shopping, enjoy the live music, have a glass of wine, and eat crispy carnitas tacos. A sunny afternoon of good times, kids dance barefoot and old friends catch up on things. All of it helps the charities that the residents of Las Conchas support through events like this, sponsored by the Las Conchas Community Relations Committee.

Come see the metal artists, painters, grafts sellers and more at the Patti Springer Art in the Park. It happens at the Las Conchas Fiesta Park. Ask at the gate for easy directions.

The event is on Saturday, November 29th, from 11am to 4pm. Artists set up begins at 9am. The cost to display your art is $20.00 US. Free and open to the public. For more information, or to reserve a space contact Lori at 382 0139, or Maria at 382 0050 por Espaniol./

Puerto Vallarta Vacation Travel Tips

Puerto Vallarta Vacation Travel Tips Every Tourist Should Consider

Considered by many to be one of the most delightful and inviting destinations in coastal Mexico, Puerto Vallarta has a long history of providing for an ideal vacation experience. As such, there are some essential vacation travel tips that every traveler should consider as a way to make a vacation that much more enjoyable. While many of these tips seem simple in nature they can ultimately serve to make a vacation more rewarding.

Recover From Jet Lag

One example is to always pack more than one bathing suit when traveling to coastal Mexico. This combined with having an adequate supply of sunscreen can go a long way in making the beach going experience more enjoyable. Equally important is to ensure that your body has had a chance to recover from jet lag for those that travel from other time zones. Typically speaking, it takes a day or two to recover from jet lag. Once the body has acclimated to the new time zone is much easier to handle the change in time.

Avoid Bringing New Shoes

Another great tip for getting the most out of any vacation experience to Puerto Vallarta is to frequently wash one’s hands. This can reduce the chances of contracting an illness while on vacation. From stomach viruses to a host of other undesirable conditions, dirty hands are notorious for causing a wide variety of illnesses in travelers. Another key aspect of getting the most out of any vacation is to avoid bringing new shoes along on a coastal Mexico getaway. The better option is to bring shoes that are broken in and comfortable. New shoes can cause blisters, broken skin and painful sores.

Creature Comforts Found At Home

Finally, packing lightly and packing in the right way can make a big difference in convenience and organization when it comes to vacation in Mexico. Packing smartly simply means knowing what will be available when arriving in Puerto Vallarta. In most cases, those that are staying in a furnished vacation rental will have access to towels, linens and a wide range of creature comforts found at home. This can greatly reduce the necessity for packing items that will already be available upon arrival. As an added note, insect repellent is always a good item to have while on vacation.
