Driving Directions to San Carlos Mexico, from Tucson.

From Tucson: Take Interstate 10 to Interstate 19.

Take I-19 south to Nogales. You will pass Green Valley, Tubac, and Rio Rico.

Take Exit #4 “Border Truck Route 89 South” (approx 60-minute trip). This road will take you directly to the highway, instead of going through downtown Nogales AZ and Nogales, Mex.

Cross without stopping unless you are requested to stop, and proceed uphill on new toll road. Pay toll of 39 pesos.


Proceed on toll road to “Km. 21Customs Checkpoint”.

Stay on the main road named “Cuota” (toll road). Pay 22 pesos toll outside the town of Magdalena. There are bathrooms and food at this point. This is Mexico Highway 15 to Santa Ana, and it´s the same road that will take you to Guaymas / San Carlos.

Continue south on Highway 15 to next toll station, at entrance of Hermosillo. Pay 63 pesos toll.

Continue driving south to Hermosillo. At one of the first stoplights, turn LEFT.You will see a sign that says ¨Guaymas¨, and a 17 story crystal building a few blocks ahead. (There is a Pemex station on the right corner and the old Sonora Motors Chevrolet dealership (now out of business) on the other.) Follow the road signs to Guaymas.

Follow surface streets through town, following ¨Guaymas¨ direction signs. Pass a park, some new housing developments on your right, and prison. Shortly after the prison the road will fork. Stay right and proceed to stoplight.

Note: The City of Hermosillo, is building a nice 2 story bridge, on the exit to Guaymas, that will be very easy to use, once is done. You will see it very soon, and will be working, easy to find, there you will take the road that takes you to Guaymas. (There is a Pemex station on the right corner, and San Sabastian Hotel in the left corner.)You’re back on Highway 15. Proceed south to San Carlos.

While this bridge is being built, please be patient, and follow the signs to Guaymas, traffic gets a little crowded at lunch and after work hours.
Once on the highway, very close to Guaymas, pass a large Pemex station in the center of divided highway. This Pemex station is called ¨El Valiente¨, you will see it announced a few kilometers before.

Stay to the right. Take the San Carlos turn-off to the right, a few miles after ¨El Valiente¨ gas station.

Red brick road into town is lined with palm trees. The speed limit is enforced for the last 15-20 miles.
