Riviera Nayarit Beaches

With over 190 miles of beautiful beaches, you’re bound to find your sunny paradise somewhere in Riviera Nayarit.

Nuevo Vallarta Beach

Nuevo Vallarta Beach offers a beautiful landscape with soft sands stretching for miles in both directions, and gentle waves, ideal for boogie boarding. Parasailing, jet skiing, and Banana Boat rides are other popular water sports at Nuevo Vallarta. If you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the baby turtles making their way to the ocean! Bike around the cycling track to explore the area or hop a water taxi to one of the other area beaches.

Playa Los Muertos

The central location of Playa los Muertos makes it easy to reach restaurants, bars, and craft markets, without so many vendors on the beach itself. The sand is clean, with ample palapas and umbrella chairs — perfect for watching magical sunsets set against the backdrop of hilly, old town Puerto Vallarta. Walk down the beautiful new pier to see locals spear-fishing or selling shrimp skewers. Schools of fish combined with clear waters make for ideal snorkeling.

Sayulita Beach

Sayulita Beach offers friendly locals, great food, cycling, and horseback riding. The sand is coarser than other beaches, but that matters little for the many surfers and paddle boarders who come here for the waves. Sayulita is a great place to score cheap street tacos, explore the quieter sections of rocky beach, and shop. Beach vendors peddle rented umbrella chairs, donuts, candy, fruit, necklaces, art, blankets, jewelry, tattoos, and cigars.

Riviera Nayarit Landmarks

Unique locations make for the best stories and photographs on your Mexico vacation.

landmarks

Rancho Manuel

Combine horseback riding with sunset viewing, tequila and margarita tasting, and Monkey Mountain jungle tours. Many visitors say the gentle horses and personable guide made Rancho Manuel’s tour the highlight of their trip to Mexico. The experienced local guides also offer boat tours for whale and dolphin watching, sport fishing, surfing, and sightseeing on Islas Marietas for a truly unforgettable vacation.

The Bucerias Art Walk

With 10 major art galleries and a plethora of smaller art studios, the Bucerias Art Walk is the ideal place to slow down and soak up thought-provoking Mexican artwork. Shop the galleries and boutiques or the Wednesday morning artisan market. Choose from more than 20 renowned restaurants. The weekly Bucerias Art Walk runs Thursday nights from 7-9pm, November through April, offering visitors a chance to speak with local artists.

Our Lady of the Rosary

If you’re visiting historic San Blas, Our Lady of the Rosary is a must-see. The hilltop location was once a fort, so you can expect gorgeous panoramic views of the region. It’s a quiet and private setting, accessible for just $1. Wander freely among ruins dating back to 1769, and take a number of unique vacation photos among the open-air stone archways, canons, altars, and restored Cathedral paintings.

Riviera Nayarit Museums

Riviera Nayarit museums offer a glimpse at the history, cultural traditions, and modern lens of coastal Mexico.

Estudio Cafe

Estudio Café presents distinguished local artists in outdoor, waterside shows taking place Saturday mornings, November through March. You’ll love the view of the marina from the shady, open air terrace. Visit on the weekend for soft, relaxing live music that adds to the ambiance. The food never disappoints, whether you opt for brunch with Spanish omelets and “the world’s best” French toast, or reasonably priced coconut shrimp and steak fajita dinners.

Luna Layne

Mexican décor for the home adds an ambiance of warmth and friendliness, according to the owners of Luna Layne. Shop for unique, hand-made textiles, sculptures, ceramics, and treasures for the home, designed by Mexican artists. The prices are fair, and the passionate store owners are happy to chat with you about the stories behind the items that make each curation so special. You can learn a lot about the traditional folk art of Mexico, while you shop!

Mexica Tiahui

Mexica Tiahui in Sayulita is our favorite, family-run shop for one-of-a-kind, handmade jewelry. You’ll find real silver, gold, pearls, and fine gemstones in these stunning pieces, though the prices are surprisingly low. One shopper found a hammered silver bracelet for just 550 pesos (about $30.) Mexica Tiahui is the perfect place to find unique souvenirs for friends and family back home.
