Many tourists might be asking themselves why there has been so many different species by shore recently. Such as the jelly fish, a type of jellyfish that hasn\u2019t been seen here in Rocky Point. We all know that this has always been a very productive region, but lately It has been even more. So I personally gathered some information from the CEDO here in Rocky Point. CEDO means \u201cCentro de <\/b><\/span>estudios de Desierto y Oceano\u201d, which means <\/b><\/span><\/span>INTERCULTURAL CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF DESERTS AND OCEANS<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. Whom there I spoke with biologists Paloma Valdivia and Caroline Dowton<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Asked them about these new jellyfish, that many people have been seeing lately. They are much bigger and also have a different color. A sort of brownish color.(As you can see in the picture below). They are not sure yet what type of species or if it is\u00a0poisonous\u00a0 but they are researching and working with an expert in jellyfish. My question was why has there been so many sea creatures by the shore such as whales, jellyfish, anchovies etc. Their answer was, because this year there is more nutrients, more food and obviously these creatures are following the food.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

They classify years by \u201cA\u00f1o ni\u00f1a fenomeno and A\u00f1o ni\u00f1o fenomeno\u201d, which means that A\u00f1o ni\u00f1o fenomeno carries warm currents and A\u00f1o ni\u00f1a carries cold currents. This year is a normal year; it is a season of upwellings. They mentioned that there will probably be even more new species due to the changes of the climate. That at some point this was going to happen due to the global warming. So we will be seeing more species that haven\u2019t been seen here in the area of Rocky Point. This is certainly interesting, and we will keep you updated on these new coming species.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
